What is a Sleep Consultant?

Home: Text

Meet Sarah

I live in New Iberia, LA. I have been married to my husband Michael for 8 years, and we have a very active 4-year-old boy named Andrew. I have been a registered nurse for 7+ years and currently work in labor & delivery, nursery, and pediatrics. I love my job. My husband always told me that when I get home from work, I am ecstatic when I get to sit down and educate my patients on a one-on-one basis.
My husband and I love to travel, so I began looking for a job that I could do at home and on the road. I also wanted it to incorporate my nursing background. After researching, I found the Family Sleep Institute. I completed my training and became certified in March 2020. Sleep Consulting became my passion for I am able to see the progress of the families I help. I look forward to meeting you and your family!

.... and why should I hire one?

This is a common question! Sleep is essential for our health and development. Most of the time when soon-to-be or new parents are asking about their child's sleep, they are given the "good luck" or "you won't be sleeping for 18+ years" with an apologetic look. But what if someone could give us specific advice on sleep hygiene, the biological need for sleep, safe sleep practices, how to stage the child's sleep environment to help to promote sleep, and the importance of timing of sleep.  Sleep consultants educate families on these topics and help address sleep issues that can arise such as early rising, short or non-existent naps, multiple-night wakings, night terrors, and bedtime battles. Why do I need to hire one when information is available by books and/or online? Sleep consultants are like personal trainers. We are here to cheer for you and pick you up when you are at your lowest. We encourage you to keep "trekking on", and will celebrate your successes with you. Yes, you can find lots of information online or get advice from your family/friends, but sleep consultants are trained in pediatric sleep and will individualize your sleep plan specifically for your child and family. Your unique sleep plan will incorporate your individual parenting philosophy and lifestyle!
